The Clean Classic: Keeping Your Vintage Ride Spotless

vintage brown coupe on a road with weeping willow trees

Cleaning your vehicle is something that all new car owners must do from time to time, but how should you go about cleaning a classic vehicle? The fact of the matter is these vehicles have different rules that must be followed in order to keep them in pristine condition. Below are some tips on how to clean modern and classic vehicles.

Cleaning Tips for Modern Cars

While it is certainly important to be mindful when washing your modern vehicle, the process can often be much simpler than a classic car. Automated car washes are an option, as most cars won’t scratch from these systems nowadays, and they are simple and affordable. If you are more of a DIY kind of person, self-washing can be as simple as spraying and wiping! To get the most out of your headlights during the cleaning process use Wipe New® Headlight Restore to keep your headlights as shiny as your car!

Cleaning Tips for Classic Cars

The first and most important tip for cleaning a classic car is to wash it strictly by hand. Automated car washes can often be too abrasive and may scratch the coating and paint. Automated car washes also do not properly dry your car, which can sometimes result in rusting and degradation of your beloved vehicle. On the topic of water, when washing your beloved classic ride, try to use water sparingly, as any water left behind in any crack or crevice can cause rust. Be sure to fully dry your vehicle after the cleaning process to ensure your classic car stays beautiful for years to come!

Pulling onto the Shoulder of the Highway: Tips for Staying Safe

aerial view of intertwined busy roads and highways

Pulling onto the shoulder of the highway can be extremely dangerous. You should only stop on the shoulder if there is an emergency or safety concern and you must stop your vehicle. Although you shouldn’t ever pull onto the shoulder without a significant safety concern, sometimes it is your only option!

Tips for Staying Safe on the Shoulder

If you do need to stop on the shoulder it can be a very dangerous venture, so follow some of these tips to stay on top of safety while on the shoulder:

  • When pulling onto the shoulder, do not stop on a bend, curve, or sharp turn. This makes it difficult for oncoming drivers to see your vehicle. In a similar fashion, it also makes it more difficult for you to pull back onto the road once you’re ready.
  • Turn on your hazard flashers while slowing down to pull onto the shoulder so that other drivers are aware you have an issue with your vehicle. Leave them on for the entirety of your time on the shoulder to keep same-direction traffic aware of your position. Consider using Wipe New® Headlight Restore to ensure that your headlights, hazard lights, and taillights are all crystal clear so that other drivers can see them well!
  • Stay in your vehicle while on the shoulder. Getting out of your vehicle can be dangerous and is highly discouraged, which includes getting out to work on your vehicle as well.
  • Raise your vehicle hood to let passing authority vehicles know that help is needed. If the situation is severe, make sure to alert authorities and your roadside assistance service as soon as possible.

8 Autumn Car Care and Driving Tips!

wipe-new-fall-car-tips

Summer 2015 will soon be at a close and Fall is right around the corner.  That means cooler days, Halloween, and road trips to enjoy the Autumn colors.   It is also means taking some time to care for your car.  Here are some car care and Fall driving tips to consider:

  • Shorter days require more dependency on clear headlights. Foggy headlights are less effective than clear ones putting you and your passengers at risk. Pickup Wipe New Headlights and return your headlights to new again for just $10 and a few minutes time.
  • Check your battery! Battery life can reduce from the extreme summer heat.
  • Check your tires! Changing temperatures affect tire pressure.  All tires should be filled to their recommended tire pressure and checked for tire wear.  Don’t forget to check your spare tire.  Be mindful that Autumn often means wet leaves on the road.
  • Fall is a great time to check your air filters and wiper blades! Old Man Winter comes next! Get prepared!
  • Avoid parking your car over piles of dry fallen leaves. Your catalytic converter could spark a fire.
  • Keep your eye out for deer. Fall is deer mating season, so the danger of a deer darting onto a road, especially between dusk and dawn, increases.
  • Fall means back to school and children are out on the streets earlier than in the Summer. Take it slow and be mindful of children running in the street.
  • Be mindful of the weather. Fall weather conditions can change abruptly. Thunderstorms, sleet, hail and even snow are not that unusual.
  • Roads covered with a summer’s worth of grease can become slick when wet or covered with early morning frost, so anticipate those conditions and be careful.

Springtime is the perfect time for cleaning; not only your home, but your automobiles as well.  Wipe New encourages you to take the best care of your cars this Spring by following these steps in this two-part series (view our first part on Wipe New and Spring Cleaning for Your Car).

Clean the interior!  After cleaning the trash out of the car, and taking care of the car’s exterior, it’s time to take on the interior.  Start by scrubbing the carpets and power-washing floor mats.  Make sure they dry completely.  Clean the insides of your windows and vacuum thoroughly.  Then use our original Wipe New to restore showroom shine on interior parts!  Wipe New is safe and effective to use on plastic, rubber, chrome, vinyl, leather, acrylic, ceramic and metallic surfaces.  Use Wipe New on your dashboards, door panels, and leather or vinyl seats.

wipe-new-original-wipe-new-headlight-restore

Check and replace your fluids! Winter weather can deplete some fluids. When the engine is cool, check your oil, coolant, transmission and brake fluids. And don’t forget to fill up your windshield washer fluid.

Lube the hinges!  Apply white lithium grease to each door, trunk and hood hinge to help prevent squeaks and premature wear.

Clean your headlights!  Tired of those aging, foggy headlights?  Spring cleaning time is a great time to restore your headlights!  Wipe New’s proprietary formula delivers crystal clear headlights in seconds and Wipe New Headlight Restore guarantees that your headlights will pass inspection for the life of the vehicle!

Don’t forget your trunk!  Many people place bags of gravel, sand, or kitty litter and/or rock salt in their trunks over winter.  Doing so can sometimes help during slippery conditions and when you need to throw something under the tires to gain traction in the ice or snow. Come spring, it’s time to remove those heavy bags, improve your gas mileage, and simple free up space.
